I was really pumped on radio last night to hear that our very own Gary Hurst, radio co-host, was in the final 30 of the WSOP Event 24 with a decent stack. There was a $500,000+ first prize and I really fancied him to do it!
Unfortunately this time it was not to be, but he did win $11,870 for his cash and very credible 29th place finish.
Gary took a filthy beat to move into the short stack position.
“Thanh dat Tran moved all in for 120k, and Gary Hurst called him out of the small blind. Hurst was ahead with , and Tran would have to get lucky to survive with . The flop was a step in the right direction. “That’s a bad flop,” Hurst said. And he was right. The on the turn gave Tran a six-high straight, and after the on the river, Tran doubled to 245,000. Hurst is now the short stack with just 75,000.” (From Pokernews Live Reporting)
After that sick beat he was eliminated soon after when his J-8 ran into A-Q.
“Gary Hurst moved all in from middle position for his last 85,000 chips and Holger Kanisch made the call.
Hurst: Jc-8c
Kanisch: Ad-Qd
Hurst flopped a flush draw but ultimately bricked out on the board and was sent to the rail in 29th place. Kanisch jumps to 466,000.”
No doubt it could have been better, in a different tournament he would have held the dominating AK against K4 and built a beast of a stack or hit his draw on the bust-out hand but an awesome performance by Gary outlasting thousands of players to make it that far and when he dropped into radio last night he said it had been a superb experience.
There is a long way to go before the end of the series and he will be back! Awesome performance and everyone at www.itsawinner.co.uk believes he can go on and win a bracelet!
