Normally I hate playing poker on Fridays, it’s just the day that I can never seem to get ahead on. I know most regs love to play at the weekend, as it’s the time that all the weekend warriors come out to play and start dumping money off left, right and centre. For me however, that is never the case, I repeatedly double up idiots all over the place. I decided to get up early on Friday though and face the donkeys head on, I managed to log about 3000+ hands and although the day started off badly, I finished the day + 3 buyins…. a minor miracle for me.
As you can imagine on Saturday I felt great. Little did I know I was about to take part in the Tour de France. I yo-yoed all day and managed in the end to finish the day down about 20bbs. I’m not used to dumping off buy ins too often, but I felt yesterday that I was playing my C game and when I do that I normally decide to gamble with people a lot more. It’s not that I get it in bad more, just that if I pick up a big draw i’m likely to try to get stacks in asap even when I know I have no fold equity. One of the biggest things I’ve learnt about the game is there is little point shoving a draw without fold equity, the benefit from shoving a draw is the opportunity to fold out your opponents weaker made hands. When the idiot has the made hand though he views it as the nuts and therefore isn’t folding, hence shoving just bloats the pot and I know I need to improve anyway to win. My draws yesterday were pretty big but I kept swinging and missing. Â Here is one of my favourites.
As I’m writing this Sunday afternoon, I have just busted the $49,000 Raketherake English Poker Open Freeroll. 836 entrants with 7 getting $7,000 packages, I didn’t get out of the first level. AK vs. AK vs. 22 all in preflop and the 22 boats the river. I can’t decide if I am going to play today or just use it as a day off, I will say that if I play I will be doing my best to avoid the ‘weekend warriors’, well at least avoid them sucking out again
On a non-poker related note, I must say that I’m so happy that football is back. Being in the US, I manage to see a lot of Sunderland but I didn’t get to see the Lads yesterday pick up three points but I will take credit for sitting in front of the BBC sports page rapidly pressing refresh every two minutes hoping Bolton didn’t manage to get a late equaliser.
I’m out for now but good luck at the tables …

Newcastle had an awesome win yesterday. We might be playing in the championship but our rebuilding has to start somewhere. The papers are saying we are mourning the loss of Owen, Martins, Lovenkrands, Cacapa, Duff, Edgar, Bassong, Beye but I say good riddance to the overpaid crap (Bassong & Edgar the exceptions) Glad the seasons back too!
