$2100 Winstar Tournament Update and September Goals

by Gary on September 6, 2009

Well i’m not sure there is a whole lot of good to tell you about the tournament. I arrived early on Thursday after an hour drive and managed to register and get my seat assignment long before the late rush of players arrived. The turnout for the tournament was a lot less this year than in previous years so it was obvious from the beginning that there would be a huge overlay on the tournament. It turns out that the overlay was about $700k, which is just so sick that you have to take advantage of it.

Knowing that the field would be pretty weak as a lot of the field got into the main event through sats, I was hoping for a nice soft table draw. Despite expecting a weak field overall there were some pretty famous names that did get into the field on my day 1, the likes of Clownie Gowan, Men the Master, Michael Binger and a handful of top internet guys were all present. As I sat at my table waiting for the seats to fill, I was hoping for older locals to a seat however I think I got every young internet guy in the field at my table. While others got cherry picked tables I got a rough draw. With 10,000 starting chips and 40 minute levels I had a decent amount of time to size up the table before having to become active. Sadly in level 2, I got all of my chips in pre flop with KK vs AK in the first meaningful pot I played. When the river card fell completing my opponent’s four flush I was crippled. I grinded my stack for about another hour but finally succumbed when my 66 on the button lost an all in race to the big blind’s A4o. Alas my experience was over and I disappointedly headed home with nothing more than a bad beat story.

Turning my attention to September and online goals, I plan on trying to play about 120k hands this month and really getting back into the grind hardcore. My girlfriend is back at college so there is plenty of time to hit the tables and not too many excuses for me not to play. I won’t have any money goals for this month but rather I just want to play well and focus on all of my decisions. By Friday I will post an update on my progress, I know how much you guys like graphs.

Did play live poker yesterday in a very soft $2/$5 game and grinded a $480 profit. Live poker always make me laugh though, so many bad retarded plays that I just don’t have the space here to detail them.

I’m out now but good luck at the tables all ….
