The Jackal Road Test Starts Monday
Posted by Mal | January 30, 2010 | Posted in: Guest Articles | Comments (0)By Carl “The Dean” Sampson
I have to apologise for not posting lately as often as what I have promised. But the good news……starting 1st Feb is that this will be a daily blog except for the 14th Feb when I am taking the missus somewhere special for Valentines Day.
Things have been really hectic lately and I have finally got someone lined up to play The Jackal properly from next month. We have agreed that he keeps all winnings and rakeback and simply pays me a kick back if and when he reaches $5k.
Using Poker Tracking Software is Fun
Posted by Mal | January 29, 2010 | Posted in: Articles | Comments (2)Buoyed by the recent upturn in cash game activity and commentary I decided to return to the poker tables and play some Texas Hold em poker. Most of my time is taken up writing about poker so it is important that I hit the tables for a session as often as possible to remain sharp and up to date with the current trends.
Recently I have started using Poker Tracker 3 to make hand analysis easier and have found it to be quite enjoyable! You are able to pat yourself on the back for good plays and groan in agony at the crazy call you made against a player you knew to be tight. This kind of review is essential and I was surprised at what I learnt from just twenty minutes of going through a five hundred hand session. Despite writing many articles about the benefits of such hand history review sessions believe me you have to do it to appreciate it.

WBCOOP Event #1
Posted by Mal | January 26, 2010 | Posted in: Mals Blog | Comments (0)1691 fellow poker bloggers turned out for the first of the World Bloggers Championships of Online Poker at Pokerstars. I represented our site as mal255.
I started badly but managed to ride the short stack below average right through the tournament before getting a stack towards the bubble. After a pleasing performance I cashed for a $16.50 SCOOP seat in 48th position. Very nice.
Also I kept Gary entertained with some bad plays early on, before he vanished in twelve table cash game action.
More to follow on our radio show Tuesday 2.30pm EST and 8.30pm GMT. See you there hopefully.

Posted by Mal | January 25, 2010 | Posted in: Mals Blog | Comments (0)How about this for a stinking play with Queens.
Painful. I made my stupid mistake of assuming he was hyper aggressive with something awful but realistically I had to be beat here.
Discuss the hand in the forum thread dedicated to this hand. Enjoy flaming me, I deserve it!
Girls are Dangerous for Poker!
Posted by Mal | January 25, 2010 | Posted in: Articles | Comments (1)Firstly let me say that the title of this article is a play on words and spoken completely tongue in cheek. You should read this article in the playful way it is intended and in no way do I think that ladies should not play poker. The more the merrier in fact. Would you rather sit with nine other men for twelve hours, each one getting more sweaty and irritated as the time goes by and the pressure builds or would you rather sit with an attractive female? I know what I prefer, but male poker players need to be aware that female players know exactly how to make that work for them.
Texas Hold’em poker throws many challenges in your way before the poker gods allow you to profit from the game. You must learn strategy, patience and a steely desire to win. That is, until an attractive female sits at your table and instantly that “male thing” kicks in where you just have to try and get them to like you. It just happens. All the poker strategies go out of the window. You want to bust everyone, but you want this girl to stay at your table because she is cute. Shame on you!
So Funny I Rolled

I was playing a NL400 heads up last night when the following hand came up. I was in the big blind with 10s-6s. I had bought in for $400 and had watched a certain player for a while. They had run well and had amassed around $1000. I was a little up on them so effective stacks were around $420.
They were very LAG even for a heads up and we were only about ten hands into the contest. They raise to $12 and I think that all three plays have merit at this stage but I decide to call for balance. The pot is $24 and the flop comes 4s-3c-2s giving me the flush draw, gutshot straight draw and two overcards.
Leading out with a draw of that size is a solid line and probably better than check-raising which is the line I chose. So I checked knowing that they would c-bet although I think that leading out is the better line. Anyway I check and they bet $16 and I check-raise to $72. They insta all-in shove for their entire stack! The effective all-in is for $336 as this is all that I have left.
