Time Duration Tells

By this I mean the length of time that it takes for a player to make their play. If someone raises and it gets around to a player and their fold is instant then this is likely to be a player who has already clicked the “fold to a bet/raise” button. Of course knowing that someone intended to fold after the event is not of much use to us but it does in fact indicate a player who is prone to using pre-action buttons.

If you were to repeat this scenario and it was bet and called by two opponents and their call was visibly instant on a board of Ah-9c-8c then this could be an indication that this player is on a draw and is receiving the proper pot odds to call and has clicked the “call any bet” button.

Tells like these can be a great help and especially in games like limit hold’em where players are frequently receiving the correct pot odds to draw to hands. Taking this a stage further and if a raise was instant then this would indicate that the raiser was raising with a powerful hand and his action was something of a no brainer otherwise they would have needed at least a few seconds of thinking time.

If you raised before the flop with AK and it was called and then a re-raise was instantaneous then a fold could be in order here and especially in a game like No Limit Hold’em. Another possible tell when it comes to betting is when a player stalls for a long time as if apparently thinking and then either calls the bet or raises.

Online Poker Tells

This is a very interesting topic and one that has been analyzed by many people. The simple fact of the matter is that whenever you play live poker, you will if you are skilled enough be able to pick up on certain tells by certain players. Many professional players who ply their trade in a bricks and mortar poker environment base their entire game on spotting and exploiting tells. It is also the opinion of many people that playing poker in an online environment eliminates being able to pick up on these tells, they are in a word….wrong! This is simply because there are all kinds of tells in poker and they do not necessarily have to be visual either.

Whenever you look for tells in an online game or a live game, all you are essentially doing is looking for different things. Most of the tells that players give off in an online game can also be picked up in a live game but the same is not true in reverse. So just what kind of tells can be picked up by glaring at the screen?

Party Gaming Founder Selling His Remaining Shares

Posted by Mal | October 21, 2009 | Posted in: News | Comments (0)

Anurag Dikshit, founder of Party Gaming has announced today that he will sell the remaining shares he holds in the company amounting to approximately £190 million of liquid value for him.

This comes after he is likely to face a jail sentence over Party Gamings decision to settle with the US authorities who deem allowing USA poker players to gamble online is illegal. Dikshit paid $300 million in a fine to the US authorities when he “faced up to his actions” in admitting to violating US law. He remains the only member of Party Gaming owners to go down this route.

Having already profited hugely from a previous share sale he has asked that all proceeds from this sale be placed into a charitable foundation already set up in his name.

After being asked to write proprietary code by Ruth Parasol in 2001, Dikshit is now one of the youngest billionaires in the world. It is not known what he will do next after leaving Party Gaming. Dikshit is said to crave the private life and feels that with a liquid net worth of around $1 billion he has nothing left to achieve with poker.

Big Stack Versus Big Stack in Tournament Poker

By Carl “The Dean” Sampson

There is a tremendous amount of poker literature these days, not to mention websites, magazines, DVD’s and televised programs that are all connected with the game. All this exposure can either be a very good or a very bad thing when it comes to attempting to learn the game. Of course having all these avenues to explore is better than having no avenue at all. But too many avenues does create one thing….an awful lot of personal opinion. Once again getting access to as many opinions as possible in any subject can either be a good or a bad thing. It all depends on how you interpret that opinion and how accurately you follow it.

Joe Sebok Taking a Big Risk at Ultimate Bet

Posted by Mal | October 7, 2009 | Posted in: Articles | Comments (0)

Joe Sebok is taking a big risk associating himself with Ultimate Bet as their consultant and sponsored pro. Ultimate Bet have admitted cheating players out of a minimum of $22 million dollars and this alone could (possibly should) have seen them put out of business.

Sebok has pledged to right the wrongs of this debacle and has taken the unusual step of signing for them before they have made good on any of their promises.
