UB Scandal Report Released

Posted by Mal | September 15, 2009 | Posted in: Poker | Comments (0)

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission have released the results of their investigation into the online poker cheating. Click read more for the summary of the findings.

I spent a lot of time reading the full report. Here is what I’ve found.

1. The blame for the cheating has been placed with Russ Hamilton as the main guy with 31 other unnamed individuals.
2. Tokwiro who now own UB apparently did not know about the cheating when they bought it.
3. No-one associated with Tokwiro is part of the fraud.
4. Tokwiro have refunded $22 million to players affected and payed $1.5 million fine to the gaming commission for the problem.
5. Confirmation that super user accounts could see the hole cards, BUT other normal user accounts used this information to profit.
6. Tokwiro have 30 days to register all shareholders, officers, managers to avoid trasparency problems.
7. Apparently the code and software anomalies were repaired as of Feb 08.
8. The cheating took place between 2003 and 2007.

More on this news story as I discover it. There is increasing speculation of a whitewash due to the Tokwiro company not clarifying their ownership nor the hole card information released for that period. UB kept their license to carry on operating, but there was no mention of the Absolute Poker scandal of the same time period.
