I Finally Played Some Hands

Posted by Mal | September 30, 2009 | Posted in: Mals Blog | Comments (0)

It amazes me that once I manage to get through the opening stages of a tournament I seem to do quite well. I enjoy any victory, even one like this in a $0.10 360 Turbo SNG! It reminds me that even I can have small victories and gives me hope to carry on learning and trying to get better.

I’ve now managed to turn $0.00 into $8.70 so my bankroll challenge of trying to turn nothing into something is making extremely slow, but steady progress. I decided to think about why I refuse to deposit even though I can.

Do You Really Have The Skills?

Posted by Mal | September 26, 2009 | Posted in: Guest Articles | Comments (1)

By Carl “The Dean” Sampson

It is a very familiar story and I have heard it thousands of times and it goes something like this.

“Bought into Pokerloco for a thousand dollars a while back. I started playing some single table sit and go’s and limit hold’em. I was ahead by $700 after a couple of weeks and decided to cash it out. I played on with my initial grand. The games on $10-$20 limit hold’em looked really soft and players were calling with anything so I sat in on the game.

It’s All Kicking Off at Pitbull

Posted by Mal | September 21, 2009 | Posted in: Poker | Comments (0)

In yet another bad day for online poker the website Pitbull Poker are accused of cheating players out of money. Is Playing Aggressively a Good Move?

Posted by Mal | September 17, 2009 | Posted in: Articles | Comments (0)

Just ask 2006 World Series of Poker Main Even Champion Jamie Gold if playing aggressive poker is a good move. In that contest he walked away from the table with over $10 million dollars in winnings all due to his aggressive style, one that he still uses. No matter if you are playing free poker, in a poker tournament, or a friendly game of online poker, aggressive play can work to your advantage but you need to know how to do it wisely.

Aggressive play is just what it is. It is when a player will play a hand no matter what his hole cards are. An aggressive player will raise and play a losing hand with the intent to make the other players play risky and throw them off of their game. You see alot of this in online poker but ever since Gold made aggressive play popular after his World Series victory, it has become some what of a skill and science that is constantly trying to be mastered.

Aggressive play in a poker tournament is a good strategy because you can use it as somewhat of a bluffing mechanism. Other players might pick it up as somewhat of a bluff but you really do have a good hand. Every poker player knows that reading players is something that all of the great players can do. It might be kind of hard to do this when playing online poker but when you are playing a real game, at a real table, the expressions of the opponent can play into your strategy. Jamie Gold was the master of playing aggressive but at the same time bluffing and making people fold with the winning hand. This is the best example of when playing aggressive is a good move.

If you want to practice playing aggressively the best place to practice is on a free online poker site. There are even paid sites that have free poker games. It is here where you can work on the skill and not have to worry about losing any money. It is here that you can develop your aggressive style and be able to implement it in your game the next time you play for money. When you learn how to play aggressively, it will bring a whole new outlook to the game of
poker. When you learn how to play aggressive, you have a good shot at winning any poker tournament that you play in.

Getting An Edge Online

Posted by Mal | September 8, 2009 | Posted in: Guest Articles | Comments (0)

By Carl “The Dean” Sampson

I have spoken with many people over the past few years who have or who are playing poker online both face to face and on forums and through other avenues. One of the things that struck me and still does to a certain extent are the large number of people who buy into a poker site and then stay there for good.

Do not get me wrong here, if you are purely and simply a recreational player then there may be nothing wrong with it. But even then, staying on the same site could be hurting you financially if you are not taking full advantage of the sheer volume of free money options that there are.

$2100 Winstar Tournament Update and September Goals

Posted by Gary | September 6, 2009 | Posted in: Garys Blog | Comments (0)

Well i’m not sure there is a whole lot of good to tell you about the tournament. I arrived early on Thursday after an hour drive and managed to register and get my seat assignment long before the late rush of players arrived. The turnout for the tournament was a lot less this year than in previous years so it was obvious from the beginning that there would be a huge overlay on the tournament. It turns out that the overlay was about $700k, which is just so sick that you have to take advantage of it.

WCOOP Starts in Two Days

Posted by Mal | September 1, 2009 | Posted in: Poker | Comments (0)

The WCOOP starts in two days with $40,000,000 guaranteed. I believe that they could probably have made this is $50,000,000 guarantee and it is unlikely any of the events will have an overlay this year. I expect next years guarantee to be in excess of $50,000,000.

Unlike Full Tilt this series is limited to once a year so winning a WCOOP bracelet is something to value highly (as is a FT series win, but the frequency of their events does devalue things a little).

Keep a close eye on pokerstars.tv which will be doing commentary shows on most of the events come final table time. This should be a really exciting series.
