My Hba1c reading was an amazing 47! Wow. My BP was 108/72 and my cholesterol is 1.9. Happy days.

This sparked a bit of a celebration that I struggled to put right until bed tonight. Everything after lunch was not great but I will put it right tomorrow. The only good thing is my half a slice of cake was a full slice of cake until I felt guilty and threw it out. I didn’t really enjoy it. Back to the grind tomorrow as a penance! The weight loss journey continues. I want to be 17st 10 by the next weigh-in.

I woke up at 4.8 and despite working all morning in the garden and therefore doing way more exercise than normal I came in at lunchtime at 6.0! At tea I took 10 units of insulin instead of my usual 11 but I think I forgot that I ate peas too. I therefore adjusted to 32 units of glargine when I came in at 7.9.

I was extremely stressed today for reasons I cannot disclose. I ate a good breakfast and met a friend for lunch where I resisted a Morrisons Little Breakfast (anything but little at 900+ calories) and had poached eggs on brown toast instead. It was lovely.

I had two tuna sandwiches and a banana for tea. I had nothing else and came in at a decent 6.6 but because it’s about 0.5 under 7.0 I adjusted down to 28 units of glargine.

I awoke this morning a little lower at 4.6 but that is fine. I adjusted to 5 for lunch because I calculated 3 units for the banana and 3 units for the roll. I’m making an extra effort this week because of the official weigh-in but I should put this effort in all of the time. My lunch calculation should have been 7 in hindsight (3 roll, 1 crisps, 3 banana) I made the error because I was 4.5 and gave myself a cushion.

I went to the Football in the evening and had sausage and chips. Not eating at Football remains the challenge. I had factored in perhaps having something so my readings were ok, but calculating well and eating too much is not a good way. I shall have a good, disciplined day tomorrow.

A quiet day at home which felt like a struggle. Usually my “red” zones where I could easily cheat are 1.5 hours before I’m due to eat. Sometimes, which I call the good days, are when the red zones pass without any hunger or thoughts of cheating by eating something I shouldn’t.

I was surprised my lunch reading was so low and I was very hungry as I tested so I think that was what caused it. The rest of the day was not eventful. I couldn’t go walking because I have pulled my right quad muscle and it is very painful. I was pleased with my evening adjustment. It’s always nice to hit the right range before bed.

Today my partner Ash visited me and we went to watch Newcastle Utd play Football. I managed to keep my sugar levels consistent. At tea I ate a Roast Dinner, but I changed my potatoes from one baking potato mashed to some smaller baby potatoes (4). I decided not to have my bun as I was quite full, hence 5.9 before bed. Despite this being low I know that take 26 units of glargine sees me arrive back where I started from in the morning, almost without fail.

I was at the Football so my tea reading was not taken but I was able to calculate where I was and adjustment on my bed reading accordingly. I’ve a visitor this weekend so posts will be smaller.

I weighed myself this morning and was 18st 8lbs. Progress.

Today was a decent day for food. I went to Cakes and Bakes and enjoyed a nice lunch. It was a treat and the adjustment was ok. I was a bit low going into the night reading but I adjusted before bed.

Today was a great day of diet and readings from start to finish. I’m proud that I’ve tightened up my approach and got back to doing things absolutely spot on.

I calculated correctly for lunch where I had a couple of sandwiches as I had slept in and had no time to prepare anything to take with me. It happens like that sometimes. My evening adjustment was good to get to 7.0 and at 6.8 this had me in the ideal range. Happy and I go again tomorrow.

On Friday I am getting my HBa1c test done which will show my average sugar level over the past twelve weeks. On Saturday is exactly twelve weeks so I will get an accurate assessment of how I’m doing.

I am expecting my average reading to be between 57 and  60 (average of 7.3 – 7.6). It might even be lower. 48 or 6.5 would be awesome but I don’t think it will be that low because the readings I take are just before food so after eating my levels obviously go up then come back down again. I’m looking forward to finding out the result in a couple of weeks.

My weight was 18 stone 11 this morning so I’m aiming to get that down to 18 stone 7 by a week Friday. Today I didn’t take a reading at tea because we had the Football. I was a bit higher at bed at 10.2 which shows the importance of regular and proper testing. Next week I will ensure I prepare a meal to take with me and do without post-match food.

Today I was very disciplined with my food and I even went to a Football match and did not eat anything. Sugar readings aside it was a real success and I didn’t really feel hungry.

At tea my reading was, as you can see from the table, 5.4. I took 11 units thinking it would see my at around 7 at 11.00pm. I came in at 4.8, which was much lower than anticipated. This forced me to eat a bread roll as 4.8 is too low. I ate it under duress and would rather have not had to eat it.

I know the roll will increase my sugar to around 8 and I took 26 units of glargine which will then return me to below 7.0 in the morning. I’ll adjust again towards lunch and note that at tea that particular meal is 9 units or perhaps even 8 to get to my target range of 7.

My morning and lunchtime readings were fine. I think you can almost take those as a given now and I’ll concentrate on tea and evening from now on.

I had a burger as a snack at 4 which hiked up my tea reading to 9.2. Taking 11 units with tea should have seen my levels drop down so I was surprised at the 9.0 reading at bed. I adjusted so I’ll be fine tomorrow. I need to get some good days in as that one error per day has probably curtailed my weight loss, it’ll certainly have slowed it down. Focus man!

I struggle to explain the lunch reading but I had no bread and corrected fine. At tea I was 5.3 and I enjoyed a baguette with my bacon. It was a treat and, as ever, I paid the price for it and it wasn’t nice to see 12.0 looking back at me as my evening reading.

From tomorrow I will just have to go through the pain barrier again. For some reason it’s harder and I admit I’ve had a bad month. I want to get back into it and see the weight coming off again. A mental belief that my weight loss has slowed is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. I must re-focus. I am fine until tea then I seem to struggle but the stupid thing is my behaviour as a whole is still way better than before June. But I am a little down about it. I want to get it right.

Breakfast and lunch was fine today but I sinned a bit having some food after Football. It’s a bad habit that I’ve not pledged to break. I’ve told the Manager to tell me not to eat something if he sees me going to get something!

Tomorrow I will report a perfect day. I will have my lunch at 1pm then a small tea. I will spend most of the day preparing a presentation for an interview I have and that will be my main focus.

I needed a blow out and got it out of my system today with a hefty lunch that I paid the price for at tea with a 12.1 reading. I feel more able now to refocus and get back to eating healthy lunches.

Taking a positive out of what is undoubtedly a negative, my adjustment was spot on getting to 6.9 before bed. That’s all there is to say really. I did notice that my blow out stopped me feeling hungry for the rest of the day so my stomach has definitely shrunk to a more normal size. I used to be able to eat those sized meals three times a day with snacks on top. Now I have no inclination to do it, which is good.
